Living The Dream

Many years ago, a past neighbor stopped by to visit with Shari at our company and take a tour of our operation. She then exclaimed to Shari she was “Living the dream.” Shari promptly replied, “oh no, we are living Robert’s dream.”

As Vintners Logistics celebrated their 16th anniversary last month, I reflect on the many years of experiences, education, and scars required prior to starting the business, and all the family effort to follow.

To those who don’t know, Shari and I have been together since birth - no kidding. I was born on May 24th and put in crib “B.” Approximately eight hours later, on May 25th Shari was placed in crib “A” - in the same room. It was love at first sight. Our moms were mere acquaintances before becoming roommates in the hospital. It was when Shari and I were in the 5th grade that I knew, and shared, I wanted to marry her. We remained friends, but did not date until our 21st birthday; I bought her a Citrus California Cooler, and I may have been a little hung over, but it did the trick. Soon we will celebrate 36 years of marriage and have raised two sons together.

After 20 years of experience, and while working on my Master in Logistics from Michigan State University, I began my research on starting a logistics business to support the Washington Wine Industry. In September 2007, Shari and I went all in and started Vintners Logistics with a vow to do whatever it took to find our way. Looking back, I fondly recall a Christmas Eve with the entire family boxing chips for shipment before we celebrated the holiday; it always seems to be the small moments that stick with you. We have been lucky enough to find growth since that date, and while we have had countless conversations, late nights, and early mornings, the smiling customers and strong relationships have made the pain worth the gain.

We thank you for allowing us serve you for 16 marvelous years! We remain ever committed to our customers, community, and industry - as we hope to remain for decades to come. With the second generation now returning to lead the business forward, it is even more exciting than ever to serve and grow with you!
